Basketball Blogging: January is starting to suck. After an impressive come-from behind win against GW 81-75 on the 2nd, then a choke to St. Fancis (PA) on Sunday (bringing AU's record to 0-3 on 1 day's rest), then a loss at Penn, and then a loss at Bucknell in the Patriot opener. They're 5-9. I figure it'll take 9 or 10 wins to take the PL regular season title and all-important homefield for the PL final, maybe 11 or 12 if HC gets REALLY hot. Five games are left this month, the PL home opener on Wednesday vs Navy with the floor dedication. Then Saturday at Lehigh, the 24th vs Colgate, the 26th vs HC (HC on 1 day's rest, THAT'S a formula for success!), and at Lafayette to close the month. The Eagles need to go 3-2 to stay competitive in the PL, and with the date with HC looming, that means the Lehigh game on the 18th is critical.
I'm scanning the PL opener scores today. Lehigh (9-5) pounded Navy (4-10) 76-59, HC (10-3) whooped Army 61-45, and Colgate (6-8) eeked over Lafayette (6-7) 66-64. OK, forget the Lehigh game on the 18th, the critical one now in Lafayette on the 31st. HC and Lehigh wins are major upsets, they NEED to take the Navy and Colgate games at home. Right now, a quick glance at the PL looks like HC, Lehigh (tier), Bucknell (tier), Colgate, Lafayette, AU (tier), Army, Navy. But it's early yet.
More blogging to come this week and on other subjects, too. I'm looking into using Notepad to jot down ideas and quickie rants so that I don't lose stuff, and making Wednesday mega-rant day. We'll see....
