Sydney Digest VII:
Mardi Gras is on Saturday, which should be a lot of fun. I'm expecting nothing, and I'll just be ready to react to whatever happens. Full report on Monday.
The NHL trading deadline is here, bringing its madness. Nedved to the Oilers? Kovalev to the Habs? Leetch to the Maple Leafs? Gonchar to the Bruins? Bondra to the Sens? Yes, that is all Rangers and Caps moves, because they're they two hopelesss teams selling off players like it's an auction. And what have my Devils done? Victor Kozlov. It'll probably work out anyway, but I feel as though I'm going to be very confused watching the NHL playoffs when I get home.
Meanwhile, the big sport stories here are the Rugby League rape story, which seems to be growing day by day (latest news here, for my American readers, the gist is that a bunch of players from the Canterbury Bulldogs were arrested on charges of sexual assualt after a party in Coffs Harbour. It's like the friggin' Gold Club trial), and the transsexual playing in the women's Australian Open (This just in: she sucks).
And meanwhile, it's Bush vs. Kerry. Who woulda thunk it? (The correct answer: Not Mickey Kaus.) We'll see how this plays out, but I'll avoid commentary for now, namely because I haven't got the time.
Link of the day that I'm not linking permanently, but should be: Meryl Yourish. As the tagline says: A writer, a weblog, her opinions. Originally from New Jersey and now living in Virginia (I believe I have that right), she focuses a lot on Jewish issues, but there's other good stuff in there too. Have a look.
