And I'm stunned:
I supposedly have my finger on the pulse of this place. I can tell when something in the Eagle op-eds is going to turn into a major campus crisis, and where buttons are going to be pushed.
So when I saw this press release announcing the cutting of men's golf and men's and women's tennis, I was disappointed, but not shocked; I'd heard rumblings that something was going to go down budget-wise at work. I figured there'd be a blurb in the campus news and it would go away.
Yeah, not so much.
It started at Saturday's basketball game (aside: I will discuss the PL tourney this week). You saw the athletes coming out supporting the tennis and golf teams; again, not really a shock, given the general attitude of this campus towards athletics, they have to be a tight-knit community. But then I hear rumblings of student government involvement, and there's posters with "Save Our Sports" on them, and petitions, and, oh boy, this might be going places...
Pessimist that I am, I think the whole thing's going to be futile. But I'm thrilled at the activism and spirit AU is showing. It's about freaking time.
Now come out and watch lacrosse. Please?
