It's the end of a short week:

Therefore, it's a link dump!

Surfergirl at Slate takes on the National Spelling Bee. I love watching this for some reason, and it takes place just downtown; I might end up going one of these years.

The Duck of Minerva: Finding out that Professor Jackson was blogging was way more exciting than it should have been.

The Long Tail explores TV's 30-minute breakdown, predicting that media will be created in shorter and shorter portions. I think they're ignoring one thing: TV shows, especially dramas, often write too many scenes to fit in the 44 minutes allotted (1 hour minus commercials). You might see these being added, which would lengthen media out past the half-hour and hour blocks, or to save the blocks, you might see a return to company sponsorship of shows. I don't know enough about ad buying to tell if this is plausible though.

NBC's Hit Me Baby One More Time premiered last night, and I missed it. But, still, one hit wonders, performing and competing? I'm there.

Theme? We don't need no stinkin' theme!
